Risk Management for Sports Medicine in Podiatry

Course Description
The lecture will cover some of the most common risks in treatment of athletes from a Podiatry standpoint.

PICA is approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education as a provider of continuing education in podiatric medicine. PICA has approved this activity for a maximum of 1.0 continuing education contact hours.

Learning Objectives
At the end of the program, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the risks of corticosteroid injections.
  2. Understand the risks of working as a team physician for a sports team.
  3. Understand the management of injured athletes and the implications of returning to their sport in a timely fashion.

Faculty

Brian W. Fullem, DPM, FAAPSM, FACFAS
Dr. Fullem is Board certified in Foot Surgery with specialization in tendon injuries including the use of Extracorporeal Shock Wave therapy. Dr. Fullem practiced in Connecticut for over 20 years before moving to Florida in 2010 and started a solo practice, Elite Sports Podiatry. Dr. Fullem has a passion for treating athletes and frequently lectures nationally on the subject and has published several articles in peer reviewed medical journals. He has also published extensively for a national running magazine, Running Times.
