2020 Sexual Harassment 101

Course Description

"Sexual Harassment 101" is a presentation designed to provide DPMs with basic information about what conduct constitutes sexual harassment in the workplace, how complaints and investigations are properly handled, how employees bring claims under federal and state law for sexual harassment, and how to implement and follow effective sexual harassment policies.  The duties and responsibilities of both medical practice owners and employers are discussed, with emphasis on preventing sexual harassment complaints and if presented, effective follow through on procedures for handling from receiving, investigation, and resolution of complaints.
Learning Objectives 

  1. What conduct constitutes sexual harassment in the workplace
  2. The investigation and resolution of a sexual harassment claim by an employer
  3. How an employee brings a sexual harassment claim to court and remedies that can be awarded
  4. How to avoid sexual harassment complaints in the workplace and claims in court by implementing and maintaining an effective sexual harassment policy in the workplace

June Baker Laird, Esq.

 is a Partner in the Colorado office of McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, LLP. She graduated in 1989 from the University of Oklahoma College of Law with honors. June is a trial lawyer who defends lawyers and healthcare providers. She has practiced in Colorado since 1991, after initially practicing for a year in Oklahoma and then a year in Florida. June joined the firm's Colorado office in 2000. She defends lawyers and healthcare providers against professional malpractice claims at trials and arbitrations, bringing dozens of cases to defense verdict for her clients. June also represents lawyers on disciplinary matters before the Office of Attorney Regulation, and healthcare providers before their licensing boards. June is a member of the Colorado and Florida Bar Associations, the Colorado Defense Lawyers Association, and Colorado's Federal Faculty of Advocates. She is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell.
