CPME - 2019 Patient Fall Risks and the Podiatric Physician

Course Description 

An older patient falls in the US every single second daily! If one of these falls occurs in your office, or while under your care, what risk do you incur? These risks are not simply the civil type, but also the practice negligence kind. This is a webinar to discuss the recognition of fall risk patients and some suggestions to mitigate that risk in your practice.

PICA is approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education as a provider of continuing education in podiatric medicine. PICA has approved this activity for a maximum of 1.0 continuing education contact hours.

Learning Objectives 

Upon completion of this course, attendees should have increased knowledge of the following:

  1. Review why falls are the leading cause of fatal injuries
  2. Discuss the risk factors related to the podiatric patient population
  3. Review how the aging related changes affect the biomechanics of the patient
  4. Provide strategies to assist you, and your staff, on ways you might mitigate patient and visitor falls on your property

Faculty

Michael King, DPM, FACFAS, FASPS 

Dr. King is an ABFAS board certified foot and ankle surgeon from Nashville, TN, and is currently the Chief Medical Officer at Upperline Healthcare in Nashville. Dr King practiced in Fall River Massachusetts for 30 years before taking his current post in Nashville. 

Dr. King is a past president of the American Podiatric Medical Association, as well as the Massachusetts Foot and Ankle Society. He was a member of both the claims and risk committees of PICA for 10 years.  Dr. King is a member of the National Council on Fall Risk Awareness and Prevention.
